Immediate Press Release

January 25, 2018

The Cambodian Americans for Human Rights and Democracy (CAHRAD) welcomes any non-violent movement that help promoting real democracy, free and fair election, justice and the respect for human rights in Cambodia in accordance to the spirit and principles of the 1991 Paris Peace Agreements on Cambodia.

At current situation, CAHRAD cannot see real democracy in Cambodia after the Cambodian government dissolved the Cambodia National Rescue Party (a political party representing 44 % of the popular votes) a couple months ago, and illegally confiscated their 55 elected parliament seats, and over 5,000 elected communal representative seats which is contrary to the spirit and principles of the 1991 Paris Peace Agreements on Cambodia.  This undemocratic action by the government has caused about half of the Cambodia’s population to lose their faith in their government and its election process which is a recipe that can lead to instability in the country and in the region.

Since the impending Cambodia National Rescue Movement (CNRM) shares similar interests, CAHRAD welcomes the movement.  The more non-violent and peaceful movements to help rally the Cambodian people to protect their rights is the better in order to help promote real democracy, free and fair election, justice and the respect for  human rights in Cambodia.
